  • Work across the full software lifecycle, including requirements gathering, design, implementation, and testing.
  • Collaborate with testers, designers, architects, and other engineering teams.
  • Utilize C++ and object-oriented design principles (UML).
  • Experience with Linux/Unix and Machine to Machine (M2M) protocols is required.
  • Eligibility for UK SC Security Clearance or BPSS check is necessary.

// Role Specification

We are seeking an experienced C++ Software Engineer to join our Simulation & Modelling team due to increased workload. This role focuses on the design and development of simulators and test benches crucial for validating spacecraft functionality across various departments.

You will be part of a small, collaborative team, working closely with testers, designers, and architects. While your primary focus will be on creating software for spacecraft simulation, you are encouraged to consider the broader architectural implications, including requirement gathering, testing strategies, and balancing performance, security, reliability, and compliance.

How you will Contribute to the team:

  • Work on Telecommunications, Earth Observation & Science missions projects (e.g., ARIEL, Vigil, ExoMars Rover, OneSat) for ESA and the UK MOD.
  • Understand that your software is integral to testing spacecraft software and hardware, which may involve evolving requirements.
  • Collaborate closely with other engineering teams to ensure the successful deployment and use of test benches, and share knowledge with Early Careers Engineers.
  • Engage in technical requirements analysis, software design and implementation, technical follow-up of external teams, system integration, testing, and delivery of the benches.

About you:

  • A proactive individual who contributes ideas and identifies potential issues throughout the software lifecycle.
  • Comfortable working with legacy technology due to security restrictions.
  • Experience with Machine to Machine (M2M) / network protocols and proficiency in Linux/Unix (any distro), particularly Red Hat.
  • Skilled in Object-Oriented analysis & design using UML (or similar), with a strong understanding of development domains, frameworks, and utilities.
  • Excellent and proven C++ programming skills, especially in developing robust client/server architectures.
  • A proven track record of managing the full software development lifecycle, from initial requirements gathering to final testing.
