Bid Manager - Rheinmetall Electronics UK Ltd.

Rheinmetall Electronics UK Ltd. is seeking an experienced and detail-driven Sales Bid Manager to coordinate and support the development of competitive, compliant, and compelling sales bids for defence electronics systems and solutions across the business.

The role involves working collaboratively with Sales Managers, Project Managers, Commercial, and Technical staff to deliver an efficient end-to-end bid process. This journey spans from initial qualification through internal governance processes to the final contract award, ensuring all bids meet customer requirements, internal governance, and strategic objectives.

The ideal candidate will possess proven expertise within the defence or complex engineering sectors, demonstrate excellent bid and related project management skills, and exhibit the ability to unite multi-disciplinary teams to deliver winning proposals within highly regulated environments and to strict timescales.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the Business Development team and IPTs by providing timely and accurate information on customers, products, platforms, and issues that may influence Capture Plans and customer relationships.
  • Bid Planning: Collaborate with Sales to identify the appropriate governance process route, bid team, and bid milestones.
  • Proposal Development: Coordinate and schedule inputs from Sales leads, technical, engineering, commercial, finance, legal, and delivery teams, ensuring clarity, consistency, and accuracy of all data.
  • Bid Compliance and Risk: Ensure compliance with procurement rules, identify bid and delivery risks, and support mitigation planning and tracking.
  • Pursue bid submissions until order receipt and acceptance.
  • Framework Bidding Support: Assist in delivering responses for competitive entry frameworks, managing cross-departmental inputs for compliant responses.
  • Manage Sales SAP B2 data to accurately reflect proposal status.
  • Conduct win/loss analysis and customer debrief reviews to identify lessons learned and improve future bid performance.
  • Manage bid budgets and monitor resource utilisation for efficient business development investment.
  • Contribute to ongoing improvements, departmental goals, and identify synergies for efficiency.
  • Develop bid-win strategies, value propositions, and differentiators with business development and sales teams to enhance success probability.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Experience in MoD procurement, competitive tendering, and framework submissions.
  • Experience in Engineering Services sales (electronic, mechanical, software, system of systems, ILS) and Product sales (electro-mechanical goods, support).
  • Proven bid management experience with the ability to manage multiple concurrent bids under tight deadlines.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems, ideally SAP B2, MS Project, and Excel.
  • Desirable: APM/Prince qualifications, Shipley process qualifications.
  • Ability to plan and facilitate proposal reviews, incorporating feedback effectively.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for developing business relationships with internal/external stakeholders, senior management, and government/military customers.
  • Effective communication skills at all levels within the business and with external consortia.
  • Working understanding of best practice bid processes and tools (e.g., bid planning, Black Hat, Red Team, Price to Win).
  • Very strong cross-functional communication, organisational, and structured problem-solving skills.
  • Commercial judgement and leadership skills to guide teams towards successful bid positions.
  • Excellent judgement and trust-building for cross-departmental relationships.
  • Clear, concise communication, executive communication, expectation setting, listening, and interpretation abilities.
  • Organisational and process skills including scheduling discipline, prioritisation, process ownership, and attention to detail.
  • Soft skills include translation ability (e.g., converting engineering language into customer value), diplomatic assertiveness, and risk framing.
