The Role: Site Safety Lead

As a Site Safety Lead, you will serve as a "business partner" to the Site Operational Team, offering competent and professional safety advice. Your primary goal is to develop and continually improve our safety culture, performance, and management in line with the safety management system and relevant legislative requirements. You will drive a significant positive change in the safety culture across the business, contributing to enhanced safety performance.

Your Responsibilities:

• Champion a positive safety and environmental culture by leading by example and promoting best practices.
• Partner with site leadership teams to provide expert health, safety, and environmental (HSE) advice, ensuring compliance with legislation, policies, and standards.
• Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including customers, regulators, and professional bodies, to foster effective HSE engagement.
• Deliver safety improvements through training, coaching, mentoring, and competency development, empowering teams to meet their HSE responsibilities.
• Lead and support incident investigations, offer expert guidance on hazards and occupational health issues, and drive continuous improvement based on lessons learned.
• Monitor and report on HSE performance, conduct audits and assurance activities, support ISO compliance, and stay informed about emerging legislation and industry best practices.

Essential Experience:

• Strong practical knowledge of Safety Management Systems, including ISO 45001 and awareness of ISO 14001.
• Experience managing Health & Safety within operational, engineering, or delivery environments.
• Proven track record of leading change and improving safety performance in complex organisations.
• Excellent analytical, coaching, influencing, and stakeholder engagement skills applicable across all organisational levels.
• Ability to communicate complex information clearly, with strong written, verbal, and prioritisation skills.
• Proactive and solution-focused approach, with recognised accident investigation training, including root cause analysis techniques.

Essential Qualifications:

• NEBOSH (Level 3) General Certificate or equivalent.

Work Environment and Location:

This role is based at our Portsmouth Technology Park (PTP) facility, a key QinetiQ site focused on advanced technology development and engineering services. The role involves 37 hours per week, with travel to Haslar and other QinetiQ and customer sites expected.

Security Clearance:

All applicants for this role must be eligible for SC clearance as a minimum.
