About the Role
As a Senior Systems Engineer at QinetiQ's PTP, Portsmouth site, you will be instrumental in creating the future of defence and security. This role offers the opportunity to work with cutting-edge technology and brilliant minds on next-generation autonomous and robotic systems.
What You'll Be Doing
You will provide essential systems engineering expertise across complex defence programmes, focusing on the development, integration, testing, and delivery of innovative technologies. Your day-to-day activities will involve:
- Leading systems engineering activities for complex defence and security projects.
- Supporting the integration, testing, and validation of software-enabled systems and trial rigs.
- Providing technical support during operational trials and experimentation activities.
- Collaborating with customers and stakeholders to develop and deliver innovative systems-of-systems solutions.
- Supporting crewed and uncrewed platforms within maritime and broader defence contexts.
- Producing high-quality technical documentation, reports, and engineering evidence.
What We're Looking For
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Strong Systems Engineering experience in complex engineering, defence, or safety-critical environments.
- Experience with integrated systems or systems-of-systems.
- Knowledge of system testing, trials, verification, or validation activities.
- Understanding of software-enabled systems and networking concepts.
- Proven experience engaging with customers, stakeholders, and multidisciplinary teams.
- The ability to assess technical changes and produce clear engineering documentation.
Qualifications
- Degree qualified in Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
- Eligible to obtain and maintain Security Check (SC) clearance.
The Environment
This role is based at our Portsmouth Technology Park (PTP), a key QinetiQ facility dedicated to advanced technology development and engineering services. You will work within a growing Future Systems team.
Working Hours & Location
The role is 37 hours per week, based at PTP, Portsmouth, with a minimum average site attendance of three days per week. Travel to other QinetiQ and customer sites is expected, and you may support annual overseas trials lasting one to three weeks.
Additional Information
While maritime experience is preferred, candidates from land, air, and other complex engineering environments are encouraged to apply. All applicants must be eligible for SC clearance as a minimum. Many roles are subject to national security vetting, and prior vetting may be transferable.
