The Role:
Within the Quantum Technologies Labs Area, we are seeking a Researcher for our Rome office, located at Via Tiburtina km.12 400. The successful candidate will undertake the following activities:
- Engage in innovative research primarily focused on low/medium TRL (Technology Readiness Level).
- Develop independent research through experimentation and computational modeling.
- Supervise PhD research projects in collaboration with Universities.
- Set up laboratory equipment and experimental areas as necessary.
- Prepare proposals for external research projects and execute state-funded programs.
- Identify growth needs and opportunities within and outside the company, and study various potential applications of their research area.
- Participate in the development of technological strategy and the implementation of next-generation research programs.
- Document and communicate results through reports and presentations to partners and clients.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Education: Master's degree in Physics, Mathematics, or Engineering, preferably with a PhD or specialization master's.
- Seniority: Expert (3-5 years of experience).
- Technical Skills: At least one of the following:
- Quantum sensing for positioning, navigation, and timing (atomic clocks, atomic interferometry, laser cooling, magneto-optical trapping, ion trapping, optical networks, etc.).
- RF sensing based on atomic systems or other methods; Magnetometry sensing.
- Quantum communications (quantum random number generators, free-space or fiber-based quantum key distribution, quantum networks or quantum internet, quantum communication system vulnerability analysis, quantum memories, and entanglement distribution schemes, etc.).
- Quantum imaging (correlated single-photon timing, entanglement-based imaging, quantum illumination, 'seeing-behind-the-corner' systems, etc.).
- Quantum Optical Theory (non-linear physics for single-photon sources; light-matter interaction theory and modeling; quantum light complex systems simulation; inverse problems, solutions, and quantum detection scheme design).
- Distributed algorithms for: clock synchronization, conference key agreement, digital signatures, etc.
- Knowledge of Cryptographic Primitives and PQC algorithms (Post-Quantum Cryptography).
- Optical, mechanical, and electronic systems engineering: modeling, simulation, and design of optical systems; experimental implementation and testing of optical systems (including experience in communication systems, spectroscopy, imaging, or other fields), RF electronics, FPGA programming, Programming and porting on SoC.
- Soft Skills: Teamwork, problem-solving, and the ability to autonomously manage research projects.
- Language Skills: English language proficiency (written and oral, B2 level).
