About the Role
At Babcock, we are committed to creating a safe and secure world. As a Refrigeration Fitter based at HMNB Clyde, Faslane, near Helensburgh, Argyll and Bute, you will be instrumental in keeping essential cooling systems operational for the Royal Navy.
This technical role offers a unique opportunity to contribute directly to national defence by ensuring the safety, performance, and reliability of refrigeration systems that support both submarines and surface vessels. What You'll Do
Day-to-day responsibilities include:
- Carrying out planned preventative maintenance on refrigeration systems, including safety-critical work.
- Diagnosing faults and resolving defects to maintain operational capability.
- Completing repairs, inspections, and fitting activities across a range of systems.
- Adhering strictly to health and safety legislation and Safe Systems of Work.
- Identifying and suggesting improvements to enhance performance and productivity.
About You
Essential experience includes:
- Proven experience in refrigeration within marine, shipbuilding, industrial, transport, or commercial engineering environments.
- Experience working in an engineering maintenance setting.
- Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Transferable skills from other engineering trades will be considered.
Qualifications
- Level 3 qualification in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning or equivalent.
- F Gas Category 1 certification.
- Other Level 3 engineering qualifications may be considered depending on experience.
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who can achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role. Eligibility for certain roles may be affected by place of birth, nationality, current or former citizenship, and residency.
Working Hours and Location
This is a full-time, permanent role working 36 hours per week, based on site at HMNB Clyde, Faslane. Set working times provide consistency and support a healthy work-life balance. Overtime is available to support operational requirements, and there is an opportunity to enrol in a standby/callout rota with an added financial incentive.
