About the Project Management Graduate Programme
Project Management at Babcock is about driving progress. You will be involved in critical projects, from supporting the design and manufacture of advanced technology to coordinating large infrastructure upgrades and ensuring teams meet deadlines. This programme places you at the heart of our operations, making a tangible impact.
What You'll Do on the Programme
You will gain exposure to a wide array of projects across different business areas. Your responsibilities may include shaping delivery plans for major defence programmes, managing risks, supporting bid processes, and gathering updates from engineering, finance, and procurement teams. This experience is designed to build your confidence, awareness, and practical skills essential for a successful career as a project manager.
Programme Structure
This is a comprehensive two-year programme comprising four six-month placements located throughout the UK. You will rotate through various sectors and locations, gaining insight into how each part of Babcock operates and how these functions interconnect. Placements could be within our Marine, Nuclear, or Land sectors, offering a broad perspective and the opportunity to identify your strengths.
As you progress, you will take on increasing responsibility and work towards formal qualifications. Babcock will support you in completing the Association for Project Management's PFQ (Project Fundamentals Qualification) and PMQ (Project Management Qualification), applying your learning directly to live projects.
Development and Support
From day one, you will receive structured support and dedicated mentorship to help you excel. You will join our Graduate Development Programme, which includes expert-led masterclasses focusing on areas such as communication, personal branding, resilience, and wellbeing. Babcock also offers full guidance and covers associated fees for progression towards Chartered status with the Association for Project Management.
Career Progression
Upon successful completion of the programme, you will transition into a permanent role as an Assistant Project Manager, ready to tackle new challenges and apply your acquired knowledge. Your development will continue with support for growth into more senior roles and increased responsibilities, guided by the Babcock Role Framework which outlines clear career pathways and development opportunities.

Application Requirements
Candidates must have achieved, or be on track to achieve, a 2:2 degree classification or higher in any discipline. While graduates in project management are particularly sought, applicants with a strong interest and transferable skills such as problem-solving, leadership, and teamwork are also encouraged.
Security Clearance Note: Many of our programmes are subject to Security Clearance and Trade Control restrictions. For this programme, you must be able to achieve and maintain Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS), Security Check (SC), and Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information clearance. Eligibility may be impacted by your place of birth, nationality, citizenship, or residency. This post may only be occupied by a sole UK national.
Location Details
The programme involves four six-month placements across various business locations. Current placement locations include Plymouth, Bristol, Warrington, and Staverton (Gloucestershire) in England, and HM Naval Base Clyde in Scotland. Location preferences will be considered during the application process, balancing applicant choices with business needs. The majority of placements and future roles are expected to be in the South West.
