Principal Electro-Optic Systems Engineer

The Future Seekers Team is seeking a Principal Electro-Optic Systems Engineer to rapidly develop and mature seeker technologies to prototype demonstrator (Technology Readiness Level 5). This role involves concept development, performance modelling, algorithm development, software, hardware and firmware development, systems integration, and testing.

Your Impact

As an Electro-Optic Systems Engineer, you will lead the integration and testing of EO seeker prototypes, collaborating with other disciplines. You will lead the specification, development, and system testing of technology prototype demonstrators. This role requires you to liaise with and contribute to the design of sub-system experts in electronics, software, firmware, and mechanical engineering. It may also suit individuals from an applications background looking to gain exposure to research and development in a more theoretical career path.

Day-to-Day Duties Include:

• Contribution to the generation of new seeker concepts.
• Generation of system and sub-systems requirements.
• Working with test engineers to characterise performance.
• Algorithm development and data analysis.
• Trials activities.

What You’ll Bring

We are looking for candidates with proven experience in Electro-Optics system development and integration, ideally with an engineering or science-based Honours degree or equivalent experience. An electronic engineering background with an understanding of passive and active EO systems is preferred. Systems engineering experience or the aspiration to move into a systems engineering role with mentoring is also desirable. We value applied engineering experience that can be built upon through training, teamwork, and mentoring.

Desirable Experience/Skills:

• Working on integration programmes, managing issues related to cost, schedule, and quality.
• Experience of sensor performance modelling and image analysis.
• Software development in MATLAB or Python.
• Practitioner level ability using Model Driven Engineering tools (e.g., Simulink, DOORS classic).
• Relevant experience in RF or EE sensor systems.
• Understanding of complex weapons systems employment.

A good attitude and willingness to learn are the most important skills, even if you do not have experience in all the listed areas.
