Operational Analysis Undergraduate Placement 2027
This 1-year placement, starting September 2027, offers a unique opportunity to apply your university learning to real-world projects and technologies within Operational Analysis (OA). OA is a scientific approach to problem-solving that uses analytical methods and tools to support and improve decision-making. The OA team utilises qualitative and quantitative methods to support a diverse range of activities, working with both internal MBDA customers and external defence contracts.
What You Will Do:
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, understanding the interaction between operational, engineering, and strategic considerations.
- Apply problem-solving and critical thinking to complex questions across various domains.
- Develop valuable technical skills in unique areas such as data analysis, statistics, historical analysis, wargaming, and scenario building.
- Support a variety of activities including undertaking research, running analytical models, and producing reports or presentations.
What We're Looking For:
- An analytical and problem-solving mindset.
- A genuine interest in defence and the application of analytical methods to solve complex operational challenges.
- Currently studying towards a relevant analytical or defence-related degree (e.g., Maths, Physics, Systems Engineering, Computational Studies, War Studies, Operational Research, Economics, Statistics).

Working Arrangements & Security:
This role offers dynamic (hybrid) working, with a pattern of 3 days per week on-site. There may be occasions where working up to 5 days per week on-site is required, subject to work classification. Applicants must be British Citizens or Dual UK nationals with British citizenship. All successful candidates will be required to undergo HMG Basic Personnel Security Standard checks (BPSS) after an offer has been made.
