Babcock is seeking a Mechanical Fitter to join their Marine Engineering team at HMNB Clyde Faslane. In this vital role, you will be responsible for maintaining and supporting critical systems that keep the Royal Navy operational, directly contributing to national defence and global security. You will be part of a skilled and supportive team, working on high-integrity assets in a dynamic environment where safety and precision are paramount.
The Role
As a Mechanical Fitter, you will undertake a variety of tasks essential for the operational readiness of naval assets. Your responsibilities will include:
- Completing planned preventative maintenance and nuclear-implicated tasks.
- Carrying out mechanical fitting, repairs, and inspections on marine systems and equipment.
- Identifying and resolving system defects.
- Adhering to health and safety legislation and safe systems of work.
- Suggesting improvements to enhance productivity and performance.
This is a full-time, permanent position, working 36 hours per week, Monday to Thursday, based at HMNB Clyde Faslane.
Essential Experience
- Background in marine or industrial engineering with mechanical maintenance experience.
- Comfortable working at heights, in confined spaces, and in various weather conditions.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and solve problems independently.
- Strong attention to detail and fault-finding skills.
- Familiarity with maintenance procedures, COSHH, risk assessments, and safe systems of work.
Qualifications
- Recognised Mechanical Engineering Apprenticeship (SVQ Level 3, NVQ, or City & Guilds equivalent) OR HNC or above in a Mechanical Engineering discipline with relevant industry experience.
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role. Please note that eligibility for some roles may be affected by place of birth, nationality, citizenship, and residency due to national security clearance and Trade Control restrictions.
