About the Role

As a Mechanical Fitter at RNAD Coulport, you will be an integral part of the Facility Processing team, contributing directly to the UK's national security by ensuring the safe and smooth operation of critical mechanical systems. This hands-on role offers the opportunity to gain diverse experience across various equipment and systems within a specialist engineering environment, building a career with significant purpose.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake mechanical fitting activities, repairs, and inspections across Facility Processing systems and equipment.
  • Complete planned preventative maintenance and nuclear-implicated tasks to meet business objectives.
  • Identify and rectify system defects, manufacturing issues, and alterations to maintain system performance.
  • Adhere to all Health & Safety legislation, Safe Systems of Work, and Babcock BM&T Clyde policy.
  • Propose suggestions for system and process improvements to enhance productivity and engineering performance.

What You Will Bring

  • Essential experience within a marine or industrial engineering environment and/or mechanical maintenance.
  • Comfort working at heights, in confined spaces, and in varied weather conditions.
  • Ability to understand and interpret engineering drawings and apply strong problem-solving skills.
  • High attention to detail with a focus on quality and fault-finding.
  • Experience of maintenance procedures, risk assessments, COSHH, and Safe Systems of Work.

Qualifications

  • Essential: Recognised Mechanical Engineering Apprenticeship at SVQ Level 3 (or NVQ / City & Guilds equivalent), OR HNC or above in a Mechanical Engineering discipline with relevant industry experience.
  • Preferred: Additional training or certifications in mechanical, marine, or defence-related disciplines.

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) clearance for this role.

Working Hours & Location

This is a full-time, permanent role working 36 hours per week, based at RNAD Coulport. Set working times are 07:15 to 16:45, Monday to Thursday, providing a three-day weekend.
